How to certify carriers have proper insurance?

One of the requests from the business is that there is a check on whether a carrier has proper insurance coverage or not. Is there a way to certify this on SAP and if so where? The function would be that the carrier (in essence our vendor, since we're paying them for transporting our materials) may be blocked if they don't have proper insurance for the year.

Well I think there must be several ways to meet this requirement, just to mention a few:

  • You could do something with incompatibillities, condition type /SCMTMS/INC_CARRIER and put it in your carrier selection setting. You can use Incompatibility area 05 (Carrier selection) with Incompatibilty Type 81 (Carrier - Transportation order). Don't forget to do the right settings in the carrier selection setting as well.
  • You could make some settings in Carrier profile (modify validity period)
  • You can define your busininess partner as carrier which give additional fields (maybe this fields can be the input for the condition)
  • There are serveral fields in BP masterdata which maybe can be used e.g. Central Block, but I don't know how the system reacts, from what I read it looks like there are many checks on sales side (FWO) in TM but I can't find much documentation on the purchasing side, so you'll have to test this carefully.

However I don't think there is a spific field that exactly meets you requirement. Please share which solution you have implemented.
