Many threads are left not answered

Hi,

I notice in the forum that I moderate, many threads get good replies but the original poster never confirms the issue as answered. This leaves the contributors and other readers not knowing if the suggestions have resolved the issue or not. Sometime it means good contributions are not awarded with points. This lack of feedback I feel could discourage forum members from making much effort in their responses and maybe not reply again.

As a moderator, I know it is possible to mark threads as assumed answered and award points. This is difficult for the moderator as it is time consuming and it difficult to know when a question is answered or which answers were most deserving of points.

A side effect of having un-answered threads is that sometimes a forum member will bump up an old thread by adding a comment such as 'did you get a solution for this'.

Would it be possible to do the following ?

Have an automated email sent to the poster reminding them of the thread and giving a link to it. This could possibly be done twice per un-answered thread. First after a week from original posting date. Then again after about 10-20 days from the last post inviting them to update and confirm the thread.

This should encourage more posters to mark threads as answered and provide feedback to those who have assisted them.

Regards,

Paul Meehan

Good idea - how about not allowing new posts from someone who has more than (some number) of unresoved posting left open after (another number) of days?

LOL, that too. At my age and in my present condition it can only mean improvements. I meant the solution is something being examined. Of course examinations for me at present are ugly references.

Marilyn is right. Stay tuned for an informative blog announcement, currently scheduled for the end of this month along the lines of this request...

No need to be so modest though

I would prefer to see something like [this Firefox plugin|/people/wenceslaus.gnana/blog/2008/04/24/what146s-thy-color-150-v20] make it into the standard.

Seeing your name in red should motivate people

(See version 1 for screenshots [over here|/people/wenceslaus.gnana/blog/2008/03/26/what146s-thy-color-150-mozilla-firefox-plugin])

Cheers,
