Exception while indexing

Hi,

I am facing a peculiar problem.

I am creating an index and adding a data source. I am able to reindex this index from index administration and the documents are indexed.

If i open the index monitor and choose the same index and click on reindex, i get an exception as below:

Runtime Error

An exception occured while processing the request.

Additional information: null

Exception ID = 40e45c20-6f1e-2b10-f3a0-8c7a6a9361dc

Note:

1. Although the exception occurs, the command is executed and reindexing happens.

2. The error occurs on the click on any of the buttons on index monitor for that particular index(stop, suspend)

3. This happens for some indexes and not for some others

4. I have tried changing the datasource, the craw;er and the custom properties. I still have the same problem.

I have another query:

When an index is created, is it automatically scheduled for indexing? Or is it mandatory to reindex for indexing to take place?

Someone kindly help me ASAP.

Useful answers will be rewarded with points generously.

Best Regards,

Vidhya

HI Vidhya,

When an index is created, is it automatically scheduled for indexing?

yes. for hierarchial repository

u need to schedule the web repository during index creation.

is it mandatory to reindex for indexing to take place?

no unless other wise for the following condition if there is an defective index

if u want to update your index use incremental update that too is not absolutely necessary as crawler runs based on events in the hierarchial repository.this function would be most helpful in the case where event in the repository take place without KM kmowledge say adding / deleting file in the file system repository directly from windows.

note: if u r using re-index it means it is indexing the datasource once again from scratch.

i cannot understand the exception error in your post but u should note that u cannot assign a folder to more than index.

Regards,

Vijay.
