extend of material

Hi All,

in one of our client, they've maintained their material master data in 2 different industry sector. mechanical and power. Now there are some common spares like ball bearing, used both in mechanical and power sector, getting created again, due to the difference in industry sector.is there any way to extend the old material irrespective of industry sector, so no need to create again.

thanks,

sheetal

    Hi

Yes you can extend the material using MM01, without creating anew material number,

but you cannot extend this to any other industry sector apart from the maintained one, as the sytem copies the industry sector from the master record.

If you want to maintain the same number in different industry sectors it is not possible.

    Thanks & Regards

    Kishore

    Hi,

Industry secor is maintained in table MARA (MARA-MBRSH). Since a material can have only one record in table MARA there's no point in speaking about the 'extension' of the industry sector.

So, you cannot extend it and you cannot change it in satndard SAP:

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/ff/515b3149d811d182b80000e829fbfe/frameset.htm

If you already created the material with a wrong industry sector and you want to have the material number with another (proper) one, the only solution I know is to archive the material master and create it again with the proper value.
