shiv, 3 people already told you NOT to use 40.

Count me as the 4th. but hey keep on ignoring the responses and try again if you want !

From SAP HELP shiva look at this if it helps you

  • There are two possible approaches for planning complex products such as cars:

a) If you allow your customers to configure the product completely, you can plan the components directly, using the strategy Planning at Assembly Level (70), for example. This approach would result in one set of planned independent requirements for all components (which are not procured on the basis of consumption or controlled by Kanban). You could enter these planned independent requirements manually, but to simplify the process you may want to plan the characteristics directly, and have the system automatically generate the planned independent requirements for the components (see strategy 89). It is also possible to use Characteristics Planning w/ Dependent Req'ts (56).

b) Another approach, which is possible even for very complex products such as cars, is to define a set of material variants (previously known as stockable types) which are produced using a make-to-stock strategy. The advantage of this approach is that your customers are immediately provided with products from stock. The disadvantage is that customers cannot fully configure the product. They must buy goods from stock.

also go through this link check the graph given there:

hi,

You need to maintain separate material master for the material variant of configurable material for which you want to maintain strategy 40 . Inside material master of material variant you need to mainain following settings :

IN Basic Data - 2 View :

Maintain Cross-plant CM : Configurable Material and don't put tick against check Material is configurable check box since you are in material master of material variant and not in configurable material itself.

IN Sales : Sales Org.2 View :

You need to maintain :

Item Category Group : NORM Standard Item

IN MRP-3 View :

YOu need to maintain following settings under Tab: Plant-specific Configuration

Configurable Material : enter your main configurable material here

Next below configurable material tick the check box of Variant and then GO to Configure Variant.

Inside Configure Variant , You maintain the Respective Values for your characteristics which you want in case of your Planned order / Production Order and maintain strategy group 40 and then save the material master with these settings.

Now when you will run MRP against PIR / CIR ( SO) in case of this material variant you will be able to get required characteristics values which you have maintained in material master of Material Variant you will find in case of Planned order / Production order.

Hope now your requirement is satisfied.

But still if you are thinking that you want to use strategy 40 for the Configurable material then it is strictly not possible.

I have explained above procedure very clearly for Material Variant of your configurable material.

This is the only way you can use strategy 40.

HOpe this is enough.

Reward if useful.

Hi Shiv,

For configurable material you use strategy 26.

The material variants (MVs) are those which are frequently required and hence we keep them in stock. For such MVs you can maintain strategy 40, since you will be keeping the stocks of these material variants.

There could be very less number of MVs which you need to go for Make to Order.

It is for sure that the KMAT (configurable material) must be maintained with strategy 26 as mentioned by experts earlier.

Also check whether type matching is being done properly and check for the configuration consistency. regenerate knowledge base.

Some correction - We must use strategy 25 for configurable material. (earlier it was typing mistake).

Please understand that the configurable material does not exist physically. What exists are that material variants of the configurable material. Hence we plan only the variants not the KMAT.

Hi Shiv,

You can use strategy 40 if you wish in case of Material Variant of your Configurable Material but you can't use any MTS strategy like 10,11, 40 etc. in case of Configurable Material and you can have pl. order against only SO for configurable material.

However you can use all pure MTS strategies in case of Material Variants of your Configurable Material same way as in case of normal materials by creating demand ( PIR) and get pl. order against PIR and go ahead.

You can use following strategies for Variant Configuration :

25 - MTO Production for Configurabel Material

26- MTO Production for Material Variant

55- Planning Variants w/o Final Assembly

65- Planning Variants w/ a Planning Material

Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Hi,

My material is a configurable material so i m using 40 my concered is why character value which is given while creating PIR are not transfering in the production order

Boz i want to produce material according to the characterstic value.

Thanks

Hi,

I told that you can't use strategy 40 for Configurable material and get planned order against PIR and transfer character values in planned order and production order.

You can use strategy 25 MTO and configure yr. SO and then can get your characteristics in your planned order / production order.

You can use strategy in case of Material Variant for which you need to maintain separate material master alongwith configurable material 's material master and inside you need to maintain required characteristics values in classification view so you will get those values in case of your planned order / production order when you maintain PIR for the material variant and run MRP for the same.

Hope now it's clear my point of view.

Revert if still any doubt.

Hi,

ur rt see i made one material in which in basic data 2 i made material is configrable & in classification view given variant class 300 & maintained characterstic for this class

In characterstic i maintained different values

IN MM now i m useing 40 start.

while creating PIR given values for characterstic now

my problem is that when i m taking MRP run & creating production order then this characterstic values are not coming in production order due to that i m not able to produce material with required character value.

Thanks

Variant Production is only possible for MTO scenario.

Instated of PIR you maintain CIR in MD81 and then run the MRP. You will get the expected result.

Hi,

For variant configuration use strategy 25. Strategy 40 can not use.

Create Sales order with required character. PIR not possible to create.
