Patch history output is wrong after using Combined Installers to Update BIP/Explorer

Hello,

I was wondering about an alert for "BOE Web App Build Check" on all of our systems,
so I had a look at this in detail and it seems to me that the Patch History output is wrong, caused by the usage of combined installers to update the BIP/Explorer (to 4.1 SP09 P04).

BIPST is just showing the SP version, the Patch version is ignored.
Windows -> Programs and Features shows the correct version.
CMC -> Help -> About, also shows the correct version.

Please see the attached screenshots for reference.

BIP development is aware of the problem and working on a fix. Here's the SAP Note for tracking purposes:

Hi Toby,

Thanks for the info.

I was hoping that the note includes a workaround/manual fix for the issue,
since I guess this will lead to issues in future update activities.

Do you know if this will be provided at a later point in time?
Or can you tell me how to fix this manually?

Hi Moritz,

Install dev mentioned that there is no functional issue. You will be able to apply further patches as normal. What specifically are your concerns? I'll be happy to contact them if I can't answer your question.

Thanks
Toby

Hi Moritz,

I reproduced the issue that the Combined installer is updating both manifest and inventory.txt with the incorrect build number. I have forwarded a bug fix request to our installer team. This should be fixed in future combined installers (not sure if they will fix them retroactively, we'll see)

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Cheers
Toby

Hi Moritz,

Once again thanks so much for reporting the issue!

I think in this case, it's the combined installer where the issue is. In the case of Patch History, we simply report what is in the install manifest database. It sounds like the combined installer didn't update the manifest correctly.

Let me look into this and see if it's a known issue with the installer. I'll be back in touch as soon as I have an update.

Cheers
Toby

Hi Toby,

No problem 🙂
I'm looking forward to the outcome of your investigation.
This sounds to me that we could run into issues when doing future updates, since the manifest seems to be not correct, so it would be good to be able to fix that.

Thanks for your support!
