Viewing the VBA Code and Retaining during the code

Hi Experts,

Where can i view the VBA Code and Macros used in the Workbooks (If any). We are migrating the workbooks and we have some VBA Code used for formatting the workbooks. And after migration we lost the formatting features in the workbooks. How can i retain the earlier formatting. Anyone who was involved in a similar me share your experiences.

Thank You!

Hi,

Migrating the workbook to 7.0: I did this, in following way:

-save it. At this stage the format is going to be exactly same as 3.x workbook. If you start refreshing, you loose format.

-Go to design mode and deselect 'apply format' option and save it again. Here you can see that you have lost the format.

-Format it again and save it.

-This should work now when you refresh. Refreshing takes.

Hi Reddy,

Thank You for the reply. What was the Strategy you followed for migrating the workbooks in Testing and Production. I'm planing to migrate them in Development and then transport them to Testing and production. And as far as the Queries are concerned i'm not migrating them or transporting them, because i can do that during any future changes to the Queries. Did you do any settings or run any programs before migrating the workbooks.

Please let me know the strategy you followed. I don't find some good material on this. Please throw some light on these

Thank You!

Hi,

I Just Opened queries in BEx 7.0 Query designer and saved them . During this process, we have to take care of the above mentioned issues. Because there is no migration and there is no new GUID and there are no new objects in database tables. However, once we save the query with the NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) Query Designer unable to edit it anymore with the 3.5 Query Designer.

In general the system logic allows to still edit other 3.5 queries in the 3.5 Query Designer even if they are re-using elements of a query that has been edited with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) BEx Query Designer as long as the reusable elements use no 7.0 (2004s) features (such as planning settings, new aggregation on formulas, variables with multiple default values).

Please also check the NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) BI release notes and check note 832713.

Hi Reddy,

Thanks a lot for the mail. But how did you take care of the workbooks. Did you run the saved 2004s queries and save them as new workbooks and transported them thru the landscape, or did you migrate the old workbooks and transport the migrated workbooks thru the landscape.

Hi,

I migrated the workbooks only, and there is no need to migrate all the underlying queries from 3.x to 7.0 before migrating the workbook from 3.x to 7.0.The workbooks will act a bit different in the new BEx! I.e. you can't refresh single queries anymore - only the entire workbook!. so you have to take care of formatting issues, during refresh.

Hope this helps,

Hi Reddy,

Thanks a lot for your time full points assigned, i would like to ask one last question.

When i execute the 3.X query in new BEx Analyzer, i get the output displayed in the new 2004s format (i mean the blue screen with the chart, filter and information buttons), but when i execute the migrated 7.0 workbook in the new Analyzer, i get the output like the old Excel table, it contains all the new functions, design mode etc. but it does not have the Chart, filter and information buttons, so do i need to execute the queries and save them as new workbooks inorder to get the results in the new format.

Thanks,

AM

Hi,

As per SAP recomendations, "The 3.X workbooks migrated automatically when opened in the BEx Analyzer from SAP NetWeaver 7.0. Workbooks from SAP BW 3.x that contain customer-specific code enhancements are converted as well as possible. Once workbooks from SAP BW 3.x are saved in the BEx Analyzer from SAP NetWeaver 7.0, they can no longer be opened in the BEx Analyzer from SAP BW 3.x."

It should work from above SP 14 onwards, I am not sure which SP you are using.Pls try agian and let me know.also you try execute the queries and save them again.

Hope this helps,

Hi Reddy,

I'm trying to follow your steps for formatting the migrated workbooks, but i'm unable to find the option "apply format" in the design mode, please let me know where i can find this option.

Thanks,

AM
