We recently received a return shipment from a customer.

Normally we'd reserve a new batch number for the returned goods but as it was a complete batch our quality department decided to receive it under its original batch number.

The return order was received using VL02N & the material was now sitting in storage location 904 with the stock category as 'R'. Where we are getting stuck is that nobody knows how to remove the material from stock category 'R'. As I stated previously customer returns would always have received a new batch number & the material would have been transfered from 'R' to 'Q' under the new batch number using MB1B (457 movement).

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

The reason for keeping the same batch is simple. We have Qty 103 x 25kg drums that need to go back out to the customer. These are labelled with the batch number internally in heat sealed in aluminium bags & externally. To change the batch number would set the shipment back approximately 7 days. We do not have the manpower sadly.

a batch number is just a number, why cant you follow the process steps that you usually do (after creating a new number) with this batch number?

It would not be logical to have batch number wise different transaction sequences.
