    Hi,

Just a suggestion for Future postings, could you type in a more appropriate Subject line instead of just "Hi.sapgurus". It helps to understand what your topic is about, just like using an appropriate Subject in an EMial.

    Hi,

As I know direct material is what is used directly for production (e.g. ventillator for an airconditioner at a company that produces airconditioners). These goods are likely to be in BOMs.

Indirect material that you cannot link directly to each product or the production. (e.g. a liquid that is used to clean the machine in the production area, a pen that is used in the office). These goods are not likely to be in the BOMs.

Just my opinion, I do not know the definition exactly.

(you can have material number for both types and you can keep stock from them)

    (you can use Google...)

    Please close the thread.

      I agree with Csaba Szommer's,

Direct materials are those which are utilised in the production of the final finished product and are included in the BOM.

Indirect materials can be any miscellaneous materials like paper, furnitures, coolants etc. that do not go in manufacturing of the saleable final product of the company.
