Can we profile on Backend tables of SAP ECC in Information Steward

Hi All,

Can we profile on the backend tables of SAP ECC. In our case the backend database for SAP ECC is Oracle.

What is the best practice suggested by SAP?

Profiling directly on SAP tables(using Views in IS)

or

Dumping the SAP tables in to a staging layer using BODS and then profiling on the staging tables

My recommendation to all my customers: never profile on your operational systems!

Because that’s bad for performance, both source and IS.

With ECC as a source, there are 2 options:

1/. Stage everything in a relational database, as you proposed

2/. Profile on a copy of PRD; they often run a QA system that’s a more or less accurate copy of PRD anyway
