https://blogs.sap.com/2017/09/04/sap-as-abap-751-sp02-developer-edition-to-download/

Hi there,

I have tried every version of Ubuntu / OpenSuse (Linux OS) with Oracle VM, on my Windows 7 Ultimate machine, to have the above file (link pasted above) to work, and have SAP Server installed, but it just simply doesn't want to work. After all those efforts, it goes have way through and stops for some dam reason.

I am just wondering now, if you guys have a SAP ABAP Server Installation with GUI for Windows, that I have download and practice my SAP BW modeling.

Appreciate if you guys can help here.

Thanks.

Shahid.

Hi Shahid,

why would you need ABAP Server on any DB to practice BW modeling? What you need is BW on HANA to practice new mixed modeling scenarios, new objects development (aDSO, Open ODS and Composite Provider) and native HANA modeling. Do not waste your time. Make it easy getting CAL BW on HANA trial system.

Hi Uladzislau,

I was in fact trying to install "SAP ABAP Server Installation with GUI for Windows" to practice ABAP.

I know it is an old post, sorry, I just happen to see, since I was out of blogging, for some time, for personal reasons.

Still wanna to clarify. Thanks for your help.

Take care.

Shahid.

Perhaps with a more precise error description people might be able to help? #StopsForSomeDamnReason

Hi Mike Pakora,

Well, if I would have got an error message, I would have written it down.

One should read between the lines; I use to not get any errors at all, and it just won't install, i.e. why I wrote:

"After all those efforts, it goes have way through and stops for some dam reason."

Anyways, I just happen to see the comment, and felt like clarifying. I know its old, but still I wanted to get the things cleared away.

Cheers !

Take care.

Hi Shahid,

Please tell us:

1. What distro you are using (pick one).

2. What are the exact errors in sapinst*.log .

Thanks Julie.

Sorry, I was out of the blogging space, for some personal reasons. I just saw the post, and thought of replying back to you.

I will try again, and if I have any issues, I will let you know.

Take care.

To clarify, this is not "the blogging space", this is Q&A. Look at the URL.

I wasn't able to use the download option either but for a different reason (some odd issue with VM). In the end, I didn't have any more time to spend on this, so I just went with the CAL option. It is not entirely free but when I signed up just a few months ago Google was still giving away 300 hours for free and I have yet to run out of that allowance. Even though I had to enter a credit card number to open the account, I haven't paid a single penny so far.

There is also a Docker option that might work better.
