Please tell me What are the steps involved in an upgradation from XI 3.0 to XI 7.0. As a technical consultant what are the main responsibilities?
What are steps involved in testing after upgrade?
How we can do the performance testing and fine tuning after migration?
hi
It is better to upgrade to PI 7.1 instead of PI 7.0

XI 7.0 which I think will be called as PI7.0 will more or less same as XI3.0 except a few changes.
difference between XI 3.0 & PI 7.0
XI 3.0
1.J2SE adapter engine replaced with J2EE Adapter engine.
2. BPM was available from XI 3.0
3. It is a Part of Netweaver 2004
PI 7.0
1XI renames as Process Integration(PI)
2. It is a Part of Netweaver 2004s.
3. Has all features of XI 3.0 and every SP of Pi 7.0 has a corresponding release for XI 3.0.
4. Runs on WAS 7.0 and has same features as XI 3,0
5.Adapter Enhancements in JMS,JDBC,.Conversion. Multimapping.. userdefined functions.
the major difference is PI 7.0 is based on WAS 7.0
1.All new features for XI 7.0 are almost same as for XI 3.0 at least till SPS 19.
Some differences are as follows:
u2022 Adapter Enhancements like JMS, JDBC, Oracle-JDBC and CIDX Enhancements
u2022 New Conversion Agent,
u2022 Receiver Determination Enhancements
u2022 Multi mapping
u2022 User defined enhancements
u2022 Unbounded Processes (Integration Processes).
2. One more difference is the ABAP stack (which is 7.0 and not 6.40) but from the developer point of view there is nothing new.
3. PI 7.0 = XI 7.0
4. For each SP in XI3.0 there is a corresponding SP being released for PI (XI 7.0). A comparison of the service packs in 2004 and 2004s:
In 2004 - In 2004s
SP12 & lower = SP04
SP13 + 14 = SP05
SP15 = SP06
SP16 = SP07
SP17 = SP08
SP18 = SP09
5. XI3.0 is based on WAS(web application server)6.40 - NW2004
PI7.0 is based on WAS(web application server)7.0 - NW2004's.
XI 3.0 runs on WAS 6.40 and is a part of Netweaver 2004.
PI 7.0 runs on WAS 7.0 and is a part if Netweaevr 2004s.
Your job will be very much simple while upgrading than implimenting or while developing because there is much difference between XI3.0 and PI7.0.
Normal testing in mesage mapping weather your mapping is correct or not and then entire testing also.
Please reward points if it helps
Thanks

Hi
Upgrade paths to SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 will be supported by SAP NetWeaver ´04
as well as SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s). Existing investments are leveraged, i.e. most of the objects stored in XI 3.0 or SAP NetWeaver PI 7.0 (2004s) will be available after an upgrade to SAP NetWeaver PI
7.1.
Performance testing and Fine tunning will be confirmed as similar to XI 3.0 / PI 7.0. Wit upgradig the various scenarios, you can check the working of Adapter Engine, as well as can follow the post installation guide as similar way for PI 71.
