Display of multiple language descriptions in functional location

Dear Experts,

I have recently noticed a discrepancy in our mySAP ECC 6.0 environment and I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this - or if it is a bug in our system.

I have noticed that when a functional location record is created in one language (Example: ENGLISH) and then viewed from another language (Example: German) there is no short text displayed to the end user. This then forces the German user to either enter a short text description (as it is mandatory in our system) or view the data using IL03.

I noticed that this behavior is quite different from other objects - specifically the equipment master. If the same process is followed for an equipment master - the English description would be displayed as it is the primary language for that record.

Has anyone else seen this behavior in past systems?

Hello,

There is a difference between Equipments/IE02 and Functional location/IL02 as you have described. If no f/l description exists for the logon language the short description is shown blank and is ready for input. While in IE02 the short text of primary language will be displayed.

No obvious reason for different behaviour, just different design. Situation is the same back to at least 4.6c.

In both IE02 and Il02 you can view and edit the other languages short texts from menu option: Goto - Multilingual texts
