Drill down options

I'm fairly new to the Xcelsius product so I may just be missing something obvious...

I have a stacked bar chart with 3 columns (the stack is just 2 series) and what I want to have happen is when a user clicks on any part of the column, a drill down to another chart appears as an overlay on another part of the screen. But I have two problems

The drill-down options require me to select a value/range for each series - and won't let me use the same one for both. Regardless of which part of the column they click on, I want to display the same drill-down chart....

I have to specify one of the charts as a default - which means it appears as soon as the SWF is opened. I have the object hidden and tried pre-setting all the display values to 0 but one of the charts (one for each of the main columns) always has to be select as the default. I would like one of the drill down charts to show as an overlay ONLY when the relevant column in the main chart is clicked...

Are the above design features/flaws or is there a way to do what I want to do?

I appreciate any help you can give...:-)

Parts of Xcelsius do have their limitations, as all uses desired by all users would be impossible to accommodate. That being said, many users have developed workarounds that enable them to achieve their desired results. Some internet searching may produce a workaround for your desired result.

This may not work for your particular situation, but this is my suggestion:

Do not use drill down. Instead use a transparent icon over your stacked columns. Be sure the icon is large enough to cover the maximum size of the column. Make each icon's Source Data values the same (ie Icon1 - column1/column1, Icon2 - column2/column2); with all icons inputting thier values in the same cell. Using some logic (ie hlookup) in Excel, you can have the "overlay" chart display data based on the icons' input cell. Note: a value will be inserted in the input cell, the "default" value will be associated with the Icon ordered closest to the "Front" of the dashboard.

If you don't want the overlay chart to show all the time, I would suggest adding a button that will hide the chart using dynamic visibility. Then the user can toggle it on or off based on their preference.

Hope you find a workable solution and continue to enjoy using Xcelsius!

Thanks for the feedback - I'll look into it! 😊

I did have another workaround that I am working on - I added an empty extra series (e.g. column 4) and have that as the default.

Hope that helps someone else too 😊
