Bonnie:

Anyone know why Export to Business Objects Enterprise is grayed out in Xcelcius Professional 4.5? And how do you load the SWF to XI otherwise?

Thanks!

Export to BOE is only available in the Designer version.

Hi,

I would like to know what is the way that we can actually design the crystal xcelsius so it can be publish in BO Enterprise. Because currently it does not allow to have connectivities to any database but excel only.

What do you mean by only in the Designer version? Are you refering to the Universe Designer?

There are 3 editions available for crystal xcelsius viz standard, professional and designer. You can have connectivity to other database in designer edition.

You don't necessarily need the Designer to:

1. Get a XCelsius Flash (SWF) file to show from BOE

2. Get the Data in the XCelsius Flash File to automatically update.

What I did was create a Web Service that generates an XML file on a periodic basis (weekly or daily) that is used in the Excel file. From there I imported the data into Excel using the Data Import Wizard (Office Web Connect) pointing to the Web Server hosting the XML file. Make sure the Excel file is set to auto-update the data when opened.

Once that was done, I then created an XCelsius Dashboard using that Excel file. After creating the dashbaord, I exported it to HTML that had an Flash File (the Dashboard) embedded within. The HTML was then hosted on a Web Server. From BOE I added the URL to the HTML File as an object...then...presto...I now have the ability to view XCelsius Dashboards from a link within BOE and still be able to use BOE Security.

There was a level of effert on my part to ensure security was handled so that not just anyone could access the XML file. That security was handled by using Windows Authentication to the Web Service hosting the XCelsius and XML Files (my BOE Server is using Windows AD for authentication too). Also, all datasets were done in code from a SQL Database. I let the XCelsius handle the filtering of data.

There wasn't much documentation on how to do this online so I had to resort to getting nitty-gritty into code. But alas...it works and it doesn't require I put out $7500 for XCelsius Workgroup edition...

Hey,

This is useful to me as I am at a situation where I can not implement the dashboard with out security authentication.

Can you please elaborate on the export to HTML and then publish the document in BOE.

I believe users are given the URL from the BOE to click on.

I am interested in this.

Thanks.
