Counter for graph labels

Is there a count available to know how many data items will display in a graph before it is displayed? I have a report that prints 2 bar graphs of employees on a page (with the employee name as the label below the graph) followed by pages of detail of their activity. If there is a large number of employees, the labels on the graph overlap and they cannot be read and the graph itself is hard to read. I would like to print a larger version of the graph depending on the number employees to be displayed and suppress the regular graphs. Is there a count available that I can use to determine which graph to use? Or are there any other suggestions of how to handle this?
