PI/XI Basis Administration

Hi All,

Since we would be implementing a PI 7.10 system soon, I as a Basis Administrator am trying to figure out what my role would be in its operations.

After installation, post-steps through configuration wizard, does Basis needs to do any more configurations in the system?

I have gone through all PI documentations covering topics like RWB, Integration repository, integration directory, exchange profile, tuning etc and I am not sure what if any role Basis has in the day to day operations involving these.

And what about problems with message transfers? who takes care of the failures and what can Basis do?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for this information.

But, my question was a general one about the role of a Basis Admin in Problem solving/troubleshooting

XI system after going live.

Once the installation and configuration is done, what kind of problems com up durinf data exchange and do any of these problems have to sokved by Basis?

Cyrus,

In XI/PI mostly there are two types of problem one is Application related and other is system related.

If the error is application related errors like

1. message transfer fails

2. mapping fails,

3. data related problem

4. Other error related to your interface

those are role of a developer or Application support team.

If error is related to system like

1. Installing new driver

2. Restarting the server

3. Maintaining SLD (If applicable in your case)

4. High Availability.

those are the role of basis people.

You can either follow the steps provided in the pdf for post installations or you just run the post installation templates.

For running post installation templates

Go to

1. http://<server name>:<port number>/

2. click on SAP NetWeaver Administration

3. In SAP NetWeaver Administrator Screen

Click on Deploy and Change link

First you run the templates for NWA and then run templates for PI.

After running all the required templates import the SAP BASIS Content to the integration Repository.

Once your SLD is configured, you need to Follow the below steps to check it:

1) Run SLDCHECK, and see the log for any error.

• Do the RFC connections SAPSLDAPI and LCRSAPRFC work?

• Are the server access settings in transaction SLDAPICUST correct?

• Is it possible to read data from the SLD and the Exchange Profile?

• Does the Integration Server have a Business System defined?

2) Run SXI_CACHE

3) Check RFC Connections.

1) INTEGRATION_DIRECTORY_HMI (HTTP connection, use the XIISUSER to authenticate). Is the

Path Prefix set to “/dir/CacheRefresh” as recommended since SP1 of XI 3.0?

Note that a HTTP 500 response is a successful test for this connection.

The connections SAPSLDAPI and LCRSAPRFC have already been checked with transaction SLDCHECK.

2) AI_RUNTIME_JCOSERVER (TCP/IP connection)

4) Testing the connectivity between Integration Repository and SLD

Start the Integration Repository as described in the previous chapter. Go Tools’ -> ‘Transfer from System

Landscape Directory’ -> ‘Import Software Component Versions’

This test is successful if you can see a list of Software Component Versions.

5) Testing the connectivity between Integration Directory and

Integration Repository

Start the Integration Directory as described in chapter 2.5. Go to ‘Tools’ -> ‘Transfer Integration Scenario

from Integration Repository’. Then use the F4-Help for the Field ‘Name’.

Features of PI 7.0

There is no new features added in PI7.0, if u have working on XI 3.0, PI7.0 Older versions the features same..
