Yes, we can enhance the existing infotype. However, I personally believe that instead of changing something in existing Infotypes(provided by SAP), its better to have a custom Infotype. This act has 2 advantages:
1. Your SAP provided Infotypes are safe from any incorrect changes.
2. A new comer can easily identify that Infotype he/she is using to maintain certain value does not come by default in SAP. So, that increases SAP knowledge of not just the person who created the Infotype, but also of the person who is using/supporting it.
