Can anyone tell me if there is a functionality in SAP for allocating vehicle models to different dealers in a region?

Hi Vivek,

Could you be more precise on what kind of SAP Solution you are looking at..

Is it VMS or DBM.

I could give a different answer based on the areas that you are interested in ..

I am looking at the perspective of an OEM to allocate vehicles at the national leven and then at the region level and then to various dealers during planning stage. The DMS is from a dealers perspective.

Hi Vivek,

I am not very familiar with the OEM solutions as such. But when we take DBM or the Dealers system into account, (Based on the configuration) we can limit models.

Say, you define each dealer as a plant in the system (Thats actually the way most of the implementations are defined for DBM).

In order to create a Vehicle Model, you would need to have a material and while creating that material, if you select a plant called 0001 the, indirectly the Model is available for that plant (dealer) itself.

When you try to create vehicles out of the model, system would give you messages when you try to create it for some other plant (say 0002).

So, if you are following such approach, may be you can restrict models to certain dealers unless you extend the material to all the plants..

you also can define search ares for vehicles (needs some investigation on how the org model is set up, and VMS category management can be used and extended).

... and, you also can use the vehicle reservation functionality, combined with the hide/show flag. Within a BAdi, the reservation time can be defined according to business process requirements. But: busdocs are created w/ misuse of the origin purpose in ERP SD.

... and, with some simple custom-code you can define a simple allocation process by adding a custom field to the vehicle table that is filled by a (custom-spec) VMS action, and add this field also to control the vehicle search (similar to the hide/show functionality). Nevertheless, information/fields to be added to the vehicle details screen, etc. You should not forget vehicle swap processes, and end of the allocation.....

... and in addition to the above, you also can use the order-vehicle assignment functionality in VMS.

It is not about allocating vehicles per dealer regions, but may supports your backorder process that may is linked to your "regional allocation" process.

However, to discuss it in more detail, I'd like to understand some more details of your business process and its requirements to a SAP solution. Tell us more ...
