Object Size and Position...not so much on the size part

I right-clicked on a field and clicked on "Size and Position". There is only a formula(X-2) button near the "X" box, which lets me change the horizontal location. Is there no way to dynamically set the Width of the object(and for that matter vertical location and Height)? I have a report where some columns aren't visible sometimes. When that is the case I need to move some columns over(which I can do), but I also then need to make one column wider(which I can't do)
