You should be able to use conditional suppression on the pagenumber field. right-click on the field and on the common tab click on the "X+2" button to the right of "Suppress". You can then just enter a formula to suppress the field at certain times. For example, if your lease agreement is always 5 pages long, you can enter "pagenumber > 5". That will have the report print the page number on the first 5 pages, and then suppress it from then on. You'll just need a little more involved suppression formula if your lease agreement isn't that static (e.g. its not always 5 pages).

If there are no pages after the subreport in the report footer, this might work.
Overlap the subreport on the Page N of M. When there is a report, it should cover the page numbers. When there isn't, the page numbers should show.
Bit of a cludge, but it might work.

The subreport is in the report footer. It's actually an addendum to a lease agreement. There are page numbers on the main report (Page N of M). When the subreport prints, I don't want the page numbers on those pages, but because it's part of the main report, the page numbers continue to appear. If there is no subreport, no page prints so there are no page numbers. I don't want page numbers to print at all on the subreport pages, but continue to print on the main report.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to accomplish. It sounds like the subreport being in the footer is causing the page numbers to print incorrectly?
Can you tell me the page number behaviour you want when
1. There is a subreport present
2. There is no subreport present
Thanks

The page numbers are on the main report, and needed there. The problem is, with the sub report in the footer, the page numbers continue to show. how do I know that page contains the sub report?

You can either hide or remove the page number from the report or subreport.
