1. End user to a Consultant, would it be a good move? 2. FI-CO or HCM or Success Factors?

I know that this space has more than one answers for my first question which is - If it would be a good move from a Finance Operations role (SAP End-User) to an SAP Consultant but I thought my case would be different, so asking this.

Drilling down to my profile, I'm an MBA (in Finance) and have about 9 years of experience in Finance industry (one of the BPOs' in Hyderabad, India). I initially started my career in Accounts Payable for which the transactions are done via SAP FI-CO (I used to process Invoices and making the payments to vendors) and rest of the career is into US Payroll Operations. This is again managing the earnings/deductions/taxes of US employees. So if I want to get trained & certified as an SAP Consultant, would it be a good idea? If yes, can my current experience be used for the future opportunities?

My second question: Since I've mixed experience in SAP FI-CO (about 2 years) as an end-user and about 7 years in SAP HCM (end-user), which one would be preferable - FI-CO or HCM or Success Factors? I understand that I'll have to choose/decide based on where I would want to establish my career. But just wanted to clarify.

It’ll be a move from being an end-user to helping end-users as a Consultant.

At your current role your main concern is to run the processes, in and out of the system, better. As a Consultant, you’ll be required to focus more on technical side. Both aspects, the process and corresponding technology, are important and have their own set of challenges to address. If you decide to move, just study your options clearly. I’ll refer you to two of my blogs which may answer your first question:

Regarding your second question which tool to consider, I’d suggest you to read

Hope to hear more from others.
