SAP Design Studio 1.6 - data source name not found and no default driver specified

Hello,

I'm trying to achieve a task that is to create a application/dashboard using Design Studio 1.6 fetching data through a UNX Universe. My BI version is BI 4.1 SP6 running on windows 2008 server. I have installed the SAP Design Studio BIP addon on the BI server. The Design Studio client is installed on another machine which has no connectivity issues to the BI server. I ran rich client and was able to generate a report but Design Studio is throwing out following errors when accessing the same efashion universe. Im not able to understand what is it that Im doing in correctly. I already created a odbc 32 bit driver to establish connection between the client machine and the BI server. I have mentioned the UNC path in the ODBC Connection and Universe Designer, rich client, Information Design Tool are working fine fetching data locally. So does Design Studio use 64 bit ODBC connections? or is there something else that I'm missing?

This error message is displayed when I select objects from "Edit Query Specification"

Then the second error message displayed is after selection of an object from the universe and when I hit refresh to see the data.

Any help resolving this is much appreciated, thanks

Regards,

samique

Hi Samique

Were you able to fix this issue. We are also trying to connect to a universe based on 32 bit odbc and when we refresh the data in Edit query option of Design studio, We got those two errors mentioned by you.

I have also checked the servers. There is 32 bit and 64 bit connection servers (Up and running fine).

Appreciate your response on this.

Thanks,

Abu

Update: We were able to fix the issue by installing 64bit odbc driver on BO server machine.

Hi Arijit,

Thanks for your reply, I created a 64 bit odbc connection in my local system. Since this connection is to connect to Access database file (efashion.mdb) therefore I first had to install "AccessDatabaseEngine_X64" after that I was able to create a 64 bit ODBC connection. I named the new odbc connection on my local machine as the same name as the 32 bit odbc connection but that didnt help becuase in IDT I cant use the 64 bit odbc connection.

Even if I create a 64bit odbc connection, the Information Design Tool is a 32 bit tool so it will work with the 32bit ODBC connection. So I'm now wondering how would a 64bit odbc connection work with the Design Studio at all becuase I need Design Studio to connect to the UNX universe but the universe only uses 32 bit odbc driver not 64 bit odbc driver?

Regards

Funny thing is I am able to create a query in design studio on Island Resort Marketing universe(unx) which is also using 32 bit odbc drivers/connection. However with efashion universe(unx) which also uses 32 bit odbc connection, Im not able to create a query in design studio!!!

Probably this blog will help you understand how a unx universe uses 64 bit connection once published in BI Platform.

A 64 bit client tool uses 64 bit ODBC. Did you check creating the data source in 64bit ODBC in your local system ?
