Accessing S/4HANA 1709 via Fiori Client App on iOS

The solution instance made available via CAL works against vhcals*.dummy.nodomain URL and the "Getting Started Guide" suggests updating local system's "hosts" file for this to work with corresponding IP address.

How is this supposed to work when accessing via SAP Fiori mobile iOS app - because it isn't feasible to access /etc/hosts on an iOS device in normal course?

Hi Rakesh,

specifically for S/4HANA Fully-Activated (if that's the appliance you use), you can experience many Fiori features with the IP address in the URL as described above. One thing that will probably not work is WebGUI tiles (e.g. Create Sales Order).

However, on my iOS (11.0) with an SAP corporate profile, Safari will block the connection since the certificate is not trusted over https (similar as with a laptop browser but no option to open the site nevertheless).

If you download the Chrome app for iOS, this is a bit more tolerant (you can continue to the Fiori logon with a warning message in Chrome).

Thanks Joerg.

Yes, we do use 1709 CAL fully-activated appliance and the question was in the context of accessing via SAP Fiori iOS app (not via a mobile browser app); However, the problems you've highlighted with certificate is the problem I've also faced when accessing via Fiori iOS app - currently, the Fiori iOS App merely blocks the page access down to certificate issue. I suppose the App needs to be rather more tolerant, perhaps. (i.e. it needs to probably issue a warning and still allow the user an option to proceed further)

Hi Rakesh,

In case you have no access to the hosts file we recommend the following:

If you cannot map your local hosts file (e.g. you don’t have administrator rights on your computer), you can use the IP address of your instance in the URL (https://<vhcals4hci IP address>:44301/...), however, not all applications and scenarios will work correctly with it. Another option could be to use browser plugins (e.g. Chrome Virtual Host) that simulate the mapping in the browser session only (again, not all scenarios might work correctly with it).

Tsonyo,

Thanks. However, my question was particularly accessing via the Fiori iOS mobile app (not from the pc); IP address workaround works but not always; Infact, I've attempted using the Acrylic DNS proxy which is rather helpful for mobile devices, when we cannot update hosts file on the device natively.

Best Regards,

Rakesh
