CA Forum: Charts and Graphs

I am trying to create a simple line chart showing the value of an integer variable plotted against the time of day (24 hours). My problem is that when I choose the field that I want to plot, the checkbox for "don't summarize" is disabled, and I have no choice but to summarize the data. I am using Crystal Reports XI Release 2. Any suggestions?

Thx

Helen

Hi Helen,Had the same problem. Interestingly, the solution is that the "Don't Summarize" field is only available for formula fields. If you don't want to summarize a field, create a new formula which returns the value of that field. That should do the trick.Source: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/radhelp/v6r0m1/index.jsp?topic=/com.businessobjects.integra... - Sri

Actually I don't want to summarize at all. What I really want is a stepline chart, but as that isn't supported natively, I had to kludge it.

BTW, I figured out how to turn the summarize on/off. You can't do it from the Chart Expert or Chart Options, but if you close these, select the chart, and use F4 to go to properties, there is a property EnableSummarizeValues that takes a boolean. Awkward, but at least you can do it.

Helen, if you can write a formula to summarize the section you can use the formula to create the graph, are you summing by hour ?. Take a look at the sample reports in CR XI, from the start page, samples, feature examples, chart... There are several chart examples there.
