New Reports in CrystalReports.com not being refreshed

Post Author: Dixie Folzenlogen

CA Forum: crystalreports.com

Hello.

I had to write 3 new reports today and published to CR.com using the latest version of 'publish to crystalreports.com'. The data source is an Excel spreadsheet and the data selector is Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider. I deselected the option to 'save data in report" under Report Options. I also deselected the same option in "Options" ==>reporting.

When I preview the report -- the print date and time update and the data refreshes. After I publish to CR.com -- the reports do not refresh. I am running about 10 other reports using the same datasource and data selector without problems.

The only thing that I can think that might be the underlying cause is that I recent had a hard drive failure and had to reinstall Crystal Reports XII R2. Perhaps I am missing a critical update of some sort. However, when I check for updates -- the update service does not find any updates.

Any suggestions on where to start looking for the solution? I cannot rely on my users to "refresh" their reports before review.

Thanks.

    Hi Dixie,

When you uploaded the new reports to cr.com using the desktop publisher, were you uploading them as brand new report objects or were you overwriting existing report objects?

If you are uploading them as brand new objects then by default, the report will not be linked to the excel data file in cr.com. You will need to go into the report's properties page and link it once the upload has been completed. Once you set up the link, you should see the proper data when you view the report.

If you use the desktop publisher to overwrite the rpt file of an existing report object and that existing report object has already been linked to an excel data file then the new rpt file should pick up that link and use it too.

Please let me know if this is solves your problem.

    Hi Steve,

I was uploading them as brand new reports. I then went to the crystalreports.com website and linked them to the excel spreadsheet.

Note: I have since tried doing "Run Now" on the individual reports and I get error messages.

I also re-read the Readme.txt file that comes with CR publisher. I initially did not install Monthly Hot Fix 1 because it pre-dated Release 2 which I would think already has those fixes if I am interpreting the information provided at the BO site. It looks like I have the drivers, etc.

Would it have anything to do with administrative rights on this system?

    Hi Steve,

In sheer desperation, I uninstalled Publish to Crystal Reports. Downloaded Monthly Hot Fix 1 for Crystal Reports XI Release 2. Tried to install it after download and got an error message saying Crystal Reports XIR2 product not supported.

    WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

    Dixie

    Hi Dixie,

I'm not sure why things would fail when trying to overwrite the reports after setting up the link to excel. It should not be anything administrative or anything to do with the Monthly Hot Fix 1.

The Monfthly Hot Fix 1 was required to fix a problem with refreshing reports that contained charts or other graphics. This MHF was included in Service Pack 1 (SP1) or greater so as long as you had that installed, you should not need to worry about installing MHF1.

I have seen errors sometimes when doing an overwrite using the deskop publisher if the data connections of the new report varied greatly from the data connections of the report already in crdc. Is the new report you are uploading very different in structure (the actual data should not matter) from the one in crdc?

What error do you get back in the desktop publisher? That might indicate what the problems is.

    Hi Dixie,

That does sound odd. It could be that your current install of Crystal Reports is patched to a higher level than Monthly Hot Fix 1.

I know they just released a Service Pack 3 so if you wanted to patch everything up to the latest and greatest then I would suggest you download and install that. That will definitely include all the fixes from MHF1 as well as SP1 and SP2.
