Base unit of measure

Dear Gurus

pls explain me , i am creating new material instead of old one because wanna change to base unit of measure for that new material .

what are the pre requests for this type of problem .

I have to delete / change old bom and routing ....etc

pls explain in details.

Hi Kandan

I think Base unit of measure can be changed, if there is no stock and any other alternate unit of measure.

You can try in MM 02 basic data.

If you want to create new material is spite of that create new material by copy mode in MM01 and copy all the data's and change the unit in basic data screen.

Then do BOM change is CS 20 ( Mass change )

i am creating new material instead of old one only because of base unit of measure .

so that i have to change bom , create new routing ,production version ,cost collector ,cost estimate for new one .

Then i have to delete old production / planned orders ,reservations ...etc

if i missed anything pls point out .

Hy,

I think in your case only BOM change is required.There is no need to create new Routing or Production version.It is advisable to run cost estimate after BOM change.

Regarding Production ordrs and Plan orders you can update the component data by using "Read master data" and Eplod BOM function(Plan Orders).

Reservation which are automaticaly created for Process orders are update automatiocaly as soon as the changes are update in Process orders.

You can use Follow up material (MRP 4) function also for auto update of Old material with new one.(First check in testing server then only Production server)

Hi Kandan..,

what is your primary aim whether you want to change base unit of material or want to create a new material and insert in place of old material.

If you want to change the base unit of measure just follow previous poster. go to MM02 and change the base unit of measure.

---> system will change to new unit of measure if there is no dependencies.

---> system show the error log if there is any dependencies if you can able to close all the dependencies (like purchasere req, plnd order, prod.order ) come to MM02 and change. system will accept.

if issue is not solved comeback.

You change the base unit in the mateial master, It will through error, go to menu Edit---> Display errors to get the pre-requisites.

If you able to get the material status as a freshly created state i.e., no transaction, no master data etc.You can change the Base UOM.

Especially there will an error where the error will not be elaborate and specify the area to modify. Pl. check whether Info record for this material exists for the ablove situation.

We have changed the Base UOM where there is no transaction happened in our implementation site.

Hi,

You aregoing to create a new material because you want a new base UOM.

There is no pre-requisites as such.

You definately need to change the BOM if you are going to use this new material.

If component allocation is there then check the routings also.

MRP will take care of planned orders and PRs. If some production ordersare there and this new change is to be made then go for "Read PP Master Data"
