Hi guys,

Tried to start HANA by using command line HDB start and I received the following message: FAIL: process hdbxsengine HDB XSEngine not running.

Then, I tried to recreate a log segment using the following command line: hdblogdiag directory --recreate /hana/log/HDB/mnt00001/hdb00003 and I received this error message:

EndPosition in segment 0x27fb1e700 different from EndPosition in existing log segment dir: LogSegment[0x0:0x27fa17f00-0x280a165c0(0x3ff9b000B)/Truncated,ts=2017-03-19 01:57:20.106038][GUID=F1410662-005C-20170308-173629-1EF00000BD/PrevGUID=F1410662-005C-20170308-173629-1EF00000BC/PersGUID=917685F3-005C-20170217-142827-1FF0000001/RestoreGUID=AECE3C78-005C-20161213-165652-0780000001] UsedSegmentSize in segment 0x41a0000 different from UsedSegmentSize in existing log segment dir: LogSegment[0x0:0x27fa17f00-0x280a165c0(0x3ff9b000B)/Truncated,ts=2017-03-19 01:57:20.106038][GUID=F1410662-005C-20170308-173629-1EF00000BD/PrevGUID=F1410662-005C-20170308-173629-1EF00000BC/PersGUID=917685F3-005C-20170217-142827-1FF0000001/RestoreGUID=AECE3C78-005C-20161213-165652-0780000001]

Any hint to solve this issue?

(It didn't let me update all trace files - Excedeed maximum file size. I can send it to you if you want to)

Thanks,

AC

Hi Alejandra,

Did you delete a log segment here? You should never try to recreate/delete a log segment, a PIT recovery would be safest option here but data loss would have to be accepted. I have seen incidents in the past where by the admin used -touch to recreate a dummy segment but caused worse damage down the line. If my memory serves me correct, this is the same situation as we discussed in the past :).

You could also remove the XS engine from the landscape and add it again....application data will of course be lost, either way data loss is a given in this situation.
