Move SAP database from named to default instance

Is it possible to move a SAP database from a named SQL instance to the default instance without doing a reinstall of SAP?

We are running ECC 6.0 SR2 on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition version 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Build 3790.

Hi,

for that you need to uninstall SQL server.

before doing that stop sap server

detach you sap database,

then uninstall SQL server 2005,

after that install SQL server 2005 with default instance by running SQL4SAP.vbs

attach your SAP databse.

start sap systsm.

Hi,

sorry, but this is not correct. You don't need to uninstall the named instance as you can have both side-by-side and after the attach you have to run the STM tools. See my note 151603 for details. The STM tools will make the necessary chnages in the SAP profiles as well (DBHOST, dbs/mss/server etc.).
