Integration Predictive Maintenenance Services to SAP Materials Management

Former Member

Hello,

I am currently student in the masters program Supply Chain Management at the University of Economics in Vienna.

For my seminar paper I am currently trying to find out how SAP links their predictive maintenance and services to their SAP Materials Management. E.g. a manufacturer is selling machines to his customers and also provides predictive maintenance service for this machine. If then an alert for maintenance pops up which also needs a spare part for maintenance at the customer – how is this alert linked to Materials Management so the spare part is ordered, delivered etc. (considering spare parts are not kept in stock, but have to be ordered on an as-needed basis).

I already did a deep research in the product descriptions and SAP help Portal. However, unfortunately I could not find anything to the Integration to SAP MM.

Thank you!

Hello,

The current process is that an alert pop-ups in PdMS and that this is forwarded as a PM/CS notification in the backend: https://api.sap.com/shell/discover/contentpackage/SAPPredictiveMaintenanceandServicecloudeditionSAPE....

This notification would be the trigger for all required processes to take place. Direct integration from PdMS into MM does not exist yet.

You do not need an interface between the machine and SAP directly. PdMS would be your layer in-between.

Best Regards,

Felix

I've never worked with PdMS, but the following link indicates that the raw data is imported to PdMS

Hello,

thank you very much for this valuable input.

This means, that when I am performing Predictive Maintenance for my own enterprise, and an alert pops up, when processing this alert and scheduling the maintenance, the system is ordering the parts via the EAM/PM through a work order (PM type order). PdMS is integrated with PM and PM is integrated with MM.

If I am providing the Service of Predictive Maintenance for my customer, and an alert pops up, the system is ordering the parts via the Customer Service Service Order - so PdMS is integrated with CS and CS is integrated with MM.

Did I understand this correct?

Thank you!

hello,

Thanks for all the valuable input.

Wouldn't the PdMS cloud edition be this interface already? As it collects all the machine data for further analysis. If through the analysis an alert pops up with "maintenance action needed" and I process this alert - could this processing of the alert trigger the creation of the CS order?

Thank you!

Spooky - I'm in Vienna today..

Anyway.. You would need an interface from the machine to SAP. The machine software would need to trigger the creation of a PM/CS Order which could include labour, materials, purchases/services.

Once the PM/CS Order has been created in SAP, then these material/purchase/services requirements are viable in the MM module as either resevations or purchase requisitions.

Andrea,

The providing of maintenance service to the customer would be through Customer Service functionality, which is the same as EAM/PM, except that the service is sold to customer via Service Contracts and/or Service Orders with or without Billing, etc.

The needed parts can be planned into the Service Order, the same as for a PM type Order, generating a reservation or purchase requisition, which are then processed with Materials Management functionality. If not stocked, the PO can be shipped directly to the customer location, or to the shop of the technician.

Many companies are providing services (and parts) like this. Adding Predictive Maintenance for customer equipment would be the same as for owned equipment. Follow the links from Nic for PdMS.

I regret to say I don't find any clear answer either, but I would like to refer you to :
