Filling the BW from external application - possibilities

Hi all,

I have scenario that ought to be implemented and I am not sure what is the easiest way to do this:

An external application, in this case a FileNet Workflow, uses data from the BW.

There are two operations:

Filenet reads the data from the BW.

Filenet writes the data in the BW.

Both operations are triggered from FileNet and both operations are real-time.

As we don't have the XI installed yet, the main question is whether XI must be installed?

What is the recommended way to implement this?
