Implementing Spend Analysis using BI Content

Dear Gurus,

We are currently in the midst of preparation to implement Spend Analysis using standard BI content - with consideration of only extracting data from SRM5.0 and NOT extracting any data from the back-end R/3 system.

I have a few questions as below:

ℹ️ Since we'll be implementing a new BI7 environment as a start, would it be advisable to stick to using BW3.5 model - update rules, infosource etc, as compared to using BI7 flow of DTPs and Transformations?

(ii) Currently in the back-end systems, each business unit is using different product category and groups in own classification. Thus, we are considering to adopt UNSPSC mapping to have a consolidated groupings of products to eventually be available for reporting in BI. Have anyone done this kind of mappings before and please advise if there is another possible method to handle this, seeing that the groupings in back-end are in a mess and it is impossible to gather these info in such a short time for reporting. Any material as reference would be helpful.

(iii) When I installed the SRM-related BI content, somehow the entire data flow came with both old and new versions of datasources, transformation-update rules, why is that? E.g. in the DFD of infocube 0SR_C01, I would have update rules from ODS as well as transformations from DSO (two sets). How do we avoid these as we install BI content moving forward?

Thank you in advance for any possible replies.

Looking forward to hearing from experts who have experiences on this.
