Dear All,
I have a scenario where we are developing a product and it is in prototype stage and situation gets complicated when comes to cost roll up for these prototype parts.
There is no set up for Engineering and Design BOM at the moment in our system.
Can sombody guide me about Engineering/Design BOM and How they work in parallel with production BOM.
Regards
Ankur
Hi Ankur,
The Main Purpose of creating a BOM with Usage Engineering/Design is when there is possibility of changes.
BOM with such Usage will not be considered for MRP (Material Requirement Planning), hence it will be not be exploded for furher processing.
For Details to understand:
Goto Transaction Code OS20 (IMG Setting)
You will see that there are various possibilities realated to Usage
1. Production
2. Engineering/Design
3. Spare
4. Plant Maintenance
5. Sales
6. Cost Relevancy
Let us consider the Usage 2 (Engineering/Design)
You will find the settings made is
'+' Required Entry for Engg/Design
'.' Optional Entry for Prod/Spare/Costing
'-' No Entry for Sales/PM
Well these are all the standrad settings, you can change if you like.
Hope this information is helpful.
Please Close this thread if the issue is answered.

Hi
Engg BOM is created with BOM usage as 2 during creation through CS01 and hence, these BOMs will not be exploded for Material Requirement planning.
Engineering BOM merely for design purpose and will not have any affect on Production/purchase activities.
Thanks
