Hi SAP Support team,
I am working in DXC technologies as a Solution Architect and we are using SAP Products like SAP EA Server , PowerBuilder SAP BO …. .for my customer (NOKIA)One of our application is using Sybase EA 5.2 version , it is running in Windows 2000 Server. Now we are planning to upgrade OS version to Windows 2012 R2 Standard. If we upgrade OS to higher version , we need to upgrade to our IIS 5.0 to IIS 8.5 and EA Server 5.x to latest version . I tried to download SAP PAM (Product Availability Matrix) document from SAP site . I could not find any detailed information about EA Server.
Please clarify the following ….
What is life Cycle of Sybase EA Server 5.X?
What is the latest version of EA Server and its life cycle?
If EAServer 6.3.1 is outdated /out of vendor support, what is the alternate server of EAServer 6.3.1?
What is the system requirements(Windows OS) for latest EA Server?
Will EA Server 6.x support to IIS 8.5?
What is PowerBuilder compatible version with EA Server (Latest)?
Thanks
Saravanan
Hi Saravana;
Yes, EAS 6.3.1 (AFAIK) was the last version of EAS to be released. However, EAS itself is now EOL. If you have PowerBuilder based NVUO's running in EAS that power your App's, then the only alternative is to redeploy these as .NET web services from your PB IDE. The change the client App's to call the Web Services vs using the EAS based Corba calls.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your prompt response
We are using EAI 5,2 server , Java and PBVM 10.0.1 component are installed . My PowerBuilder Client Application is calling a Services from EA Server.
1. If EAI is EOL , is there any alternate equivalent product from SAP?
2. you suggested to redeploy as .NET Service. do we need to install PBVM in .NET Services? Can we install PBVM components in IIS Server? or any other Java Application Server (Web Logic /WebSphere...etc)
Thanks
Saravanan
Hi Saravana;
1) SAP's equivalent App Server is NetWeaver. However, it does not support PB.
2) PB based .NET web services running under IIS are supported by the PB run-time (PBVM) installation on the IIS target machine. The PBVM is still free to install anywhere and can be deployed via an MSI built by PB's Packager Utility.

HI Chris,
Thanks for clear information. Now I understood the following ... , Please correct me if I am wrong.
IIS Server will support PBVM components , Powerbuilder Client tool can also call services from IIS Server..
So PBVM with EA functionality can be done with PBVM with IIS Service?
Thanks
Saravanan
Correct .. your EAS based NVUO's would be just redeployed to IIS as .Net web services. Of course, some refactoring may be required depending on the EAS features used. Then, you would just replace the PB client App calls to EAS via Corba with Web Service client calls to your NVUO's as .Net web services now residing under IIS instead.
Thanks Chris,
Currently Java and PBVM components are running in EA Server, So I need to choose application server which will support both Java Component and PBVM components.
Can I use any Java Based server (WebLogic/WebSphere) instead of IIS ?
Any Java based Server will support PBVM components ?
Thanks
Saravanan
