Item category group is of utmost importance to SD; it covers how the material behaves from sales quotation right through the invoice. All sales documents are dependent on this fields value. The system uses this field to determine Item category in the sales order.

Item category is used determine material type for item. It talks about further classification of a material.

Item category Group and Item category group fields are maintained in Material master record in Sales Org. Data.2 view.

Dear Sahu,

'Item category' captures the behaviour of an item in the Order document.

where as the 'item category group' helps the Order document to identify the 'item category' for a line item.

and this is identified by the system with the help of item category determination.
