Hi!
We would like to install the following SAP-systems for DEMO-purpose:
SAP ERP 2005
SAP NetWeaver 2004s (XI, EP, BI)
SAP Solution Manager
All systems are unicode of course and ABAP and J2EE stacks and should run on Windows Enterprise Server 2003.
I would like to get information concerning the following questions:
1) Do these systems exist as IDES-systems?
2) Makes it sence to install all the systems on one Windows Server or do I need several servers?
2) Which server configuration should I choose:
2a) processor
2b) CPU
2c) amount of data
2d) others
Which other important thinks should be regarded?
Thank very much!
regards
Thom

ERP: YES
NW: YES
SolMan: NO

Oh - if the machine is big enough - yes. I wouldn't start with such a big configuration below 32 GB RAM and I would definitely NOT do that with a 32bit operating system.
> Which other important thinks should be regarded?
Putting that all on one system can be VERY cumbersome. I would highly recommend separating systems and use one system per application (or one virtual instance).

Hi!
Thank you very much.
Could you please describe the possibility with virtual instance in more details?
What is about the possibility with VM-Ware? Does SAP support installation on VM-Ware?
Other question
Is it possible to have one server and to install there several Windows OS?
Let's summarize
One Server:
Windows 64 Bit, Enterprise Server 2003
RAM: ...
CPU: ...
other: ...
2 or more Servers:
Windows 64 Bit, Enterprise Server 2003
RAM: ...
CPU: ...
other: ...
Thank you very much

Yes - but not on the VMWare you can download but VMWare ESX server (see note 674851 - Virtualization on Windows).

Yes - with VMWare ESX this is possible (and the only way possible).
The sizing of those machines/virtual machines heavily depends on what you plan to do with the systems.

Hi Marcus,
thank you very much indeed for your answer again.
Could please give some approximate values, if we plan to install the systems on the real server?
One Server:
Windows 64 Bit, Enterprise Server 2003
RAM: xxx GB
CPU: xxx
other: ...
2 or more Servers:
Windows 64 Bit, Enterprise Server 2003
RAM: xxx GB
CPU: .xxx
other: ...
Thank you very much!

I can´t.
One could say as a really rough estimate, that per UT (usage type) about 4 GB are needed + 4 GB for each database instance.
RAM:
ERP 2005: 8 GB
XI: 12 GB (4 GB Database, 4 GB for ABAP, 4 GB for Java)
BI/SEM: 8 GB
PI: 12 GB (4 GB Database, 4 GB for ABAP, 4 GB for Java)
Solution Manager: 6 - 8 GB
One should not run PI + something else on the same system, it´s technically possible but not advised to do so. You could use half of the memory but working with the system would be... well.. "click-n-wait" then.
For database sizes check
Note 1013391 - IDES ERP 2005 ECC 6.0 SR2
Note 1013702 - IDES BW 7.0 /SEM 6.0

Hi Thom,
Here is the link to the IDES info: [IDES Systems|http://service.sap.com/ides]
The ERP (listed as ECC), and BI are the only systems (that I know of) that come in IDES flavors.
Are you planning on installing all of these systems on one box? That is quite a few SAP applications to put on one system.
If you don't need to run all of these in parallel, then one option to consider is using virtual instances and running each application as needed.
Hope that helps.
