S/4 HANA Migration

Hello All,

Please can someone let me know whether it is possible to do a module wise migration to s/4HANA .

The database in the development environment has been upgraded to HDB and the product version is S/4HANA On Premise - Release 1709.Now the same needs upgrade needs to be done in the QAS environment.The client wants to upgrade only Finance module and not any other logistics module.

Is it possible to migrate to S/4HANA - Module wise.If yes what are its impact in the system.

Hi Saurav

The reason for wanting module wise upgrade is simply to eat the elephant in smaller bites while delivering value to business along the way.

I understand that this is only possible with the finance module, and the rest of the modules will have to be done in one upgrade.

So we will be going for 1605 now, and SAP Enterprise Management later.

Hi Saurav,

I am not sure why your client is looking for module wise - please ask them to migrate jointly logistics and finance. also one person cannot miss the advantage and benefits of S/4HANA migration. please give them the full details on why sap is moving to S/4HANA.

Hi Saurav,

Module wise migration is not possible anywhere in S/4 HANA migration. Migration happens for entire product whether it's S/4 HANA 1511, 1610 or 1709 or S/4 HANA Finance 1605.

Please discuss with business, there must be some logic behind his thought, bring that thought here and we may give some more tips and advice on that.

Moreover If you have already migrated production system then why do you need to put all the effort again in migration QA system. Just simply copy the production system to Quality/QAS (with HANA DB) and your S/4 HANA quality system is ready within a day.

Please do not follow copy path for development system as there you would have lots of open development/change request which would be over written. In development do the proper S/4 HANA migration manually.

Upgrade of the Finance module only was possible using the S/4HANA Finance Add-On. But the highest release of S/4HANA Finance is 1605.

After that (so also for your 1709 release), the finance module became part of the S/4HANA core delivery. So an independent upgrade is not possible.

I am sure that taking the journey to S4 Hana Enterprise Management in two steps Suite on Hana-> S4 hana Fiance (1605) --> S4 Hana EM (1709) is more costly than doing it in one step, but sometimes risk is smaller in smaller steps.

Could you comment on how much of the integration between S4 Finance and the rest of SAP is out of the box in S4 Finance and S4 EM ?

If we chose the two steps path, will we have a lot of work outside Finance for the first step ? And will we have a lot of double effort inside Finance for the second step ?
