SAP ASE on Power AIX migration to Intel x86 Licensing Question

Hello team,

I need some help in order to understand what is the real costs of a project im working. Currently my customer is running SAP ASE v16 on Power-AIX infrastructure on 6 cores and of course he pays licenses per core. They are looking the option of migrating that to x86 infrastructure for several reasons but is not clear the correct licensing strategy for this. Its obvious this migration will bring more cores to the compute, but is not clear if this means that we will need as much licenses as new cores. Could you confirm this is correct? In case this is correct, is there any other licensing model such as transaction per minute or something wont increase the cost linearly?

Best regards,

Carlos

Hi,

If you have a CP license model this would mean you have 1 CP license per core.
If you migrate to a server with more cores you will require more CP licenses.
There was a SR license years ago that would allow you to have 1 license, but I'm unsure if that exists now or the cost.

I would contact a sales rep for specifics on what can be done for you.

Also, are you sure you want to go to x86?
I'm not even sure ASE comes in x86 form any longer.

SDK client is getting rid of all 32 bit:
