Hi,

SAP R/3 is SAP's integrated software solution for client/server and distributed open systems. SAP's R/3 is the world's most-used standard business software for client/server computing. R/3 meets the needs of a customer from the small grocer with 3 users to the multi-billion dollar companies The software is highly customizable using SAP's proprietary programming language, ABAP/4. R/3 is scalable and highly suited for many types and sizes of organizations.

The R/3 architecture is comprised of application and database servers. The application servers house the software and the database servers handle document updates and master file databases. SAP R/2 is a real-time enterprise resource planning (ERP) software produced by SAP.

SAP R/2 followed the company's first product, a materials management module called RM/1. What was unique about R/2 was that it was a packaged software application that processed real-time on a mainframe computer taking advantage of Time Sharing Option and integrated all of an enterprise's functions, such as accounting, manufacturing processes, supply chain logistics and human resources.

R/3 is “Real time 3 tire” this we say as SAP R/3

In SAP R/3 the 3 tires are

1) Presentation layer

2) Application layer

3) Database layer

We have a concept called Landscape it contain 3 servers like development server, quality server, production server. In each server R/3 structure will present.
