Business Objects Financial Consolidation versus SAP SEM BCS

Former Member

I have read in internet

that as result of the Business Objects acquisition SAP has filled in the details of its business intelligence (BI) product roadmap.

For financial consolidation, SAP has replaced its SEM-BCS tool with Business Objects Cartesis,

What are advantages and/or disadvantages of following consolidation tools:

Business Objects Financial Consolidation

SAP SEM BCS 6.0

Which financial consolidation tool would you recommend (advantages and/or disadvantages) to a customer who does already have a BW server landscape (and / or SAP R/3 or ECC6.0) running?

Which financial consolidation tool would you recommend (advantages and/or disadvantages) to a customer who does not have any SAP server landscape running?

Thanks for your reactions!

I dont know how much your Internet news is reliable?

Here is the authentic PPT published by SAP in its website:

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b050d131-7ebc-2a10-57a3-99f75549...

One of the managers from SAP sales team visited our company two days back and I asked him whether SEM-BCS will be replaced by either BPC or BO's Cartesius consolidation tool. His reply was negative. All he mentioned was SEM-BCS will be further enhanced.

Gansha,

the link does not contain info on BCS / Financial Consolidation only on BI. Do you have other material as well?

Hi Arjan,

The internet link that you have provided is a truth from consolidaiton point of view.

The present form of Cartesian may not be fully integrated. That is true with any product that is being bought over newly by SAP, requires little time to complete the integration. The question is how soon the integrated release will come.

We were given a overview by SAP Consolidation team on Caetesian products on 1st quarter of 2008 and my comments on that are available in earlier threads in SDN forum.

SAP's pitch on Cartesian is ease in Version settings creation.

If any one is going new for consolidation, my suggestion is get the SAP consolidation team come and give the overview of latest version and give their opinion and share it in the forum.

Since SAP has heavily invested in Cartesian after BPC, it is clear their is more weightage on cartesian.

Here is the comparison:

In my scenario, the Data collection part was difficult in Cartesis, while it was much easier and simpler in SEM-BCS.

The consolidation process and the consolidation functions are same in both SEM-BCS and BO Cartesis.

For Reporting purpose, I found Bex reporting (SEM-BCS) to be simpler and easier. BO's Crystal reports are also good. But I liked the functionalities in Bex and broadcasting and iView, b'cas may be I am a hardcore SAP consultant:)
