We had UPS maintenance on Sunday and after I brought up the systems the Active Hardware Key under transaction SLICENSE is blank. SLICENSE shows the key as correct (green light) and SAPLICENSE '-show' shows the license as usable but when we try to sign on to the GUI we get an error 'Logon not possible (error in license check)' . The problems seems to be that the Active Hardware Key is used for the license validation and since this is blank it fails.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Resoltution to the problem was that there was a duplicate host name on the network which was conflicting.

Yes there are errors in my dev_ms log : the problem is I can make an assumption as to what it means but would prefer input if at all possible to confirm my suspisions.

Check the logfile of the message server dev_ms if you can see something obvious...

Hi Anette,
I can fully support Marcus!
dev_ms, dev_disp or perhaps dev_w0 will show you, that the stuff cannot access the messge-server
=> I do believe, that the TCP/IP config is wrong. You should check cfgtcp option 1, 10 & 12 - in 10 you need your own IP with the hostname as first and the full suffix as second - this needs to match the hostname, you see in the lower right corner of SAP. (even case-sensitive)
then it'll work fine

Done that as well - it gives me a hardware key but that does not resolve the problem that SLICENSE picks up a blank Active hardware key.

Hi Kaushal,
Unfortunately only sap* can sign on and it will not allow you to determine the hardware key if you are signed on to sap*
Thanks for the input though - it is appreciated!

Hi,
try following
SLICNESE -> goto -> determine remote hardware key -> select your host and click on determine
