../ means going to parent folder

In the first case the file gets loaded relative to the current file. The browser will go to the parent of the parent folder, looks there for a folder resources and tries to load the js file from there.

The latter case always loads the js file from the given URL. That means you have to have an internet connection and it will probably take longer to load the file opposed to loading from a local network.

Of course the relative URL of the first case can also lead to a URL on the internet via configuration but that is an administrative decision then.

In the first case, I don't understand how Eclipse knows to go to the Java Resources > Libraries > SAPUI5 Core Libraries to get the sap-ui-core.js file? Here is part of my myfirstUI5 project structure.

> Java Resources

>> src

>> Libraries

>>> SAPUI5 Core Libraries

>>>> sap-ui-core.js

you don't have to understand, you just have to remember now.

it is not eclipse. so many things happen behind the scene.

It's not Eclipse , it's your browser that runs your UI5 application. I recommend reading the UI5 documentation or any other web development book .
