Why is the Genil BOPF adapter discontinued?

When you are developing in SAP CRM (on premise), there is no way round BOL and Genil to link the API with the front end technology Web UI.

When I read this article from 2016 (https://archive.sap.com/documents/docs/DOC-45425), I was thrilled to found out that you could link you custom business BOPF objects with Genil. This is brilliant because it allows to create your custom business object once with little or even no coding and use it in Web UI and Fiori developments (with the new ABAP programming model involving CDS, SADL, BOPF and Fiori).

Unfortunately, internal SAP sources have confirmed that the adapter is dead and won’t be supported any longer.

What is the reason for this decision? With millions of SAP CRM installations out there, it doesn’t make sense to discontinue this adapter. Surely, Web UI is not going away soon and for some time to come, Fiori will only be an add-on rather than a full replacement for Web UI.

    Hello Michael,

thanks you for addressing this topic. We are also using the GENIL over BOPF Object and trying to employ the BOPF-GENIL Adapter for that.

We faced the problem that the standard Transactions like /BOBF/CONF_UI (ADT, BOBX etc.) was not allowing to activate the GENIL flag “BO is GENIL activated“ for the BO, though all programming artifacts are available in the standard SAP Business Suite (Package: WCF_GENIL_BOPF).

The GENIL-BOPF adapter is really nice standard feature which could simplify and standardize the WebUI specific development (business logic) and keep the future (customer) solution complied with the new ABAP programming model.

Hence I can only join and support to your concerns and questions.

    Regards,
