ALV GRID

Hi All,

I am writing a report in CRM an planning to use ALV grids. I never worked on ALV grids before. I need some help here please. I wrote a report with ALV grids. I am getting a DUMP saying 'NO FIELDCATALOG AVAILABLE'. I have couple of Qs on this:

1. Does every ALV grid report has to have "FIELDCATALOG's.

2. If yes, what exactly we define in "FIELDCATALOG's?

Could any one please direct me to any docs? Any sample codes would be really helpful.
