Hi Raj,
What is MDM work flow, its Just like ABAP Work Flow??
In addition to above replies, Kindly go through the Link below:
Its a very helpful blog on " Worklow in SAP NetWeaver"
[https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/4703] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken];
This link will give you information about various kinds of Workflows for SAP Netweaver and also it give you a better understanding about the same.
At what stage we need to define MDM work Flow??
Technically speaking, MDM imports data from the source systems, works upon it ( can be in many ways such as cleansing, enriching etc) and then syndicates back it to the target systems.
Now MDM workflows are used to define a complete process. They are used when data has been imported into MDM. Hence Cleansing, Governance and enrichment are basic areas where MDM Workflows can be used. Even Data can be sent back to the target systems using a Workflow.
Hope this information helps.

Hi Raja Shekhar,
how we define the work flow ?? Like graphical format like BPM scenarios in XI??
MS-Visio is the tool which you will have to use with MDM Workflows.
Prerequisites for working on Workflows:
1. You have created roles and users in the Repository in Console ( Otherwise, it can be run, but will be meaningless)
2. Installation of Visio has been done.
After this you need to follow these steps:
1. Open the Data Manager and choose the Workflow Table as your current table.
2. Create a Workflow Record and Set the properties based on your needs.
3. Double click on the Visio property, and then the Ms-Visio will open.
4. MDM Workflow has different stencils which you will find in Visio.
5. These stencils are such as Start, Stop, Assign, Validate etc. which have their own functions.
6. You will have to choose stencils ( as required by you) and then connect them. Set their properties.
7. Save the Visio.
8. Now the active Workflow will be available for you. You can select a record and run the Workflow on that.
This process is quite easy. Kindly try it out.
I have also found out 1 more link which compares all Workflows Tools. Kindly go through through it for better understanding :

Hi Raja,
Workflows in XI are used to merge many sender requests to one response and we create an integration process for that.
There is a stencil available for Work flow that has start, fork,Branch etc steps.
Similarly For designing MDM workflow we have Microsoft Visio which contains a stencil that have symbols representing different steps like Start,Stop,Processes,Syndicate,Approve etc.To Use workflow functionality in MDM you need to install Microsoft Visio with a compatible version w.r.t MDM Server.
Workflows are associated with MDM Data Manager. From MDM Data Manager Workflows can be created as well, launch as well as all the steps can be carried out.
Here are some links related to MDM Work Flows.

Hi frnds,
Work flow is mandatory step to define in MDM??
Suppose i have one Scenario, I am integrating R/3 to MDM. Its Mandatory procedure to define Work flow.Withpit define work flow we can consolidate m harmonize data. Work flow is final step in MDM.
I am new to MDM, i am XI Consultant, if you guys found any thing wrong excuse.

Hi Rajasekhar,
how we define the work flow ?? Like graphical format like BPM scenarios in XI??
The way we design the workflow in MDM is similar to the BPM scenarios in XI.
We have several steps (Start,validation,Approval,Stop....) and drag and drop those steps to design workflow
and we give properties for each step depends on our requirement. To design workflow, you need to install
MS Visio. BPM in XI will be designed in the same way.
We have workflow table as a special kind of table in MDM,Go to the workflow table in Data Manager
there whatever record we add becomes workflow.Whenever we add a record,it asks properties there
we can design our workflow using drag and drop mechanisim.
After we design workflow,we can launch it manually or automatically.
Hope it helps
Thanks

Hi Raja,
It is not mandatory to define workflow during the scenario R\3->XI->MDM ,But if we use Workflow in MDM it will give you the functionalities like monitoring on the data in Data Manager for example in MDM workflow there are different steps. The Owner of the workflow will launch the workflow and there is astep process where a user ABC has been assigned to thnat step now that user will have the authority to check that record in workflow and if the record is ok then only ABC the (process step assinee)will allow the record to store in Data Manager. So Workflow is for monitoring the records to avoid any worng entries.
To create a Workflow go to the data manager select Workflow table in Records Pane right click and add in Record Detail enter the Name of the workflow ,the owner ,trigger actions etc.Double click on Workflow..[Microsoft Visio Document] it will open microsoft viso document where you ca desigen your workflow. Now go to main table and select the records on which you want to run workflow. For more information here are some links related to MDM Work Flows.
Fro MDM and R\3 integration you can reffer following links.

Hi Raja
am integrating R/3 to MDM. Its Mandatory procedure to define Work flow.Withpit define work flow we can consolidate m harmonize data. Work flow is final step in MDM.
If i get ur question correctly in this scenario of integrating R/3 to MDM you may not require to use workflows. Its not mandatory but helpful depending upon the business requirements.Let me illustrate when it will be required::>
Any data coming to MDM needs to be checked against business rules for which we have already defined validation rules/assignments.if requirement is that we want all such data governance to automatically execute on addition of records we need to integrate workflow with trigger action as Record ADD.
Another scenario is say when you are syndicating records from MDM into R/3. you can use on demand syndication which uses a workflow for records syndication from Data manager.
hope it helps. award points if suitable

Hi,
What is MDM work flow?
Workflow is used to run the processes working on master data in a systematic and orderly way.
Generally, we need to have some validations and approvals in order to make sure that master data is
correct. These validations ,approvals and other processes are not done by the single person.Different
operations will be done by different users in master data management. In order to control the overall
processes done by different users in an systematic way, we need workflow.
At what stage we need to define MDM work Flow??
As i said above whenever we have validations, assignments and matching and merging and various
approvals which should be act on our master data before send the master data various application
Systems, then we go for workflow.
For example as soon as we import the data, workflow can be triggered by setting configuration options
in import manager and imported records can be addeed to workflow automatically by setting Trigger action
to record import.By doing this,we can cleanse and normalize the data using various operations in workflow.
and also we can execute the MDM workflows in portal using guided procedures.
Not only that using workflow we can extract the data from MDM to remote system using syndicate step(Available from SP5) of the workflow.
Finally what i can say is using workflow all the operations which need to be executed on master data can
be done in a proper way.
For better understanding, go through below documnents.
Hope it helps'

Hi,
MDM and ABAP workflows are not similar.
MDM Workflows are light weight i.e. you can perform some basic operations like running the Assignments, Validations, Sending Email, Syndicating records etc on different actions like addition of new record, Updation of existing record etc.
For complete information on MDM workflows please refer to the below link.

Go to the Record Mode -> MDM Workflows
