yes, using the "Personalize" option you can reset the password
did you tried with any of these UME ACTION?
UME Manage_My_Password
UME Manage_My_Profile
you can create new role and add one of these ume action to role. and assigne this to everyone group / directly to user.

Yes, you can use the default Workset "Personalize".
Adding this workset to your role, you will have the option to change your password at any moment.
The workset is in:
pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/every_user/general/worksets/com.sap.portal.portal_personalization

Gerardo: this is the most simple way I think !
The feature for change password (and for change personal data too) is an iview, for this reason is managed like any iview, assigned to a workset or page or role.
When you add this workset to roles (for example, if you look the standard role
pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/every_user/general/com.sap.portal.eu_role,
you will can see that this workset is added to default roles.
And after this, appear a link "personalize", between "help link" and "logoff" that you say.
