    Check

    http://service.sap.com/systemcopy

All necessary procedures and notes are in that guide.

    • of course you can use a tape for making the restore (which is the usual way i guess) but that depends on your infrastructure....basic steps are:

      - make an offline backup of your source sap system

      - generate control file structure (source system)

      - install central instance using sapinst (target)

      - install database instance using sapinst (when asked use "System Copy / Oracle Backup/Restore") (target)

      - you will be asked to install the database software -> do so

      - sapinst will prompt for making the restore (of the offline backup you made)

      - do the restore according to your infrastructural prerequisites (on os level!)

      - when restore is done finish the installation by using sapinst

these are just then basic steps....more details can be found in the appropriate guide ( Homogeneous and Heterogeneous System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP Web Application Server ABAP 6.40 SR1 )

    basically you have two options:

    a) install target system (with new SID) and make a db ex/import using sapinst

    b) install target system (with new SID) and make a db copy either by using brbackup/brrestore or by using r3copy

all these options have their pros and cons (for example ex/import will last longer but will also reorganize the database...copy will be faster, but will use more space...) all you need to know can be found in the guide: "Homogeneous and hetergeneous system copy for SAP systems based on SAP WebAS 6.40"
