Hi All,

I am getting an error saying "The network is disconnected or the host machine is not running" when i try to open Data manager. We have not installed Data manager GUI onserver, will this cause a problem.

I had the problem with connecting to server due to version problem & got solved from SDN only.

Please help me out, urgent.

Pramod

Hi Pramod,

It may be because of:

1. Either your repository on Client machine is not loaded.

2. Check that GUI clients on local machine and your client server are of the same version.

Try to open the MDM Data Manager by choosing , IP address of your MDM server client machine instead XYZ. then corresponding to that MDM server "IP address" it should show the list of all your loaded repositories using Repository tab.

if you could check then also try to mount that client MDM server using MDM Console, you can see whether your repository is loaded or not.

Hope it helps you,

Hi Pramod,

Just try to unload the rep from the Console and also Unmount It.

Then Mount the repository and Load it again WIth Update Indices.

Hopefully you will be able to open the Data Manager Gui.( Check that you are mentioning the correct MDM server and accessing the correct repository while open Data Manager Client).

If it still doe not work, then try to check the repository for errors and Verify it.( from Console).

Hope it helps.

Hi All,

I have checked by unmounting the server, unloading & then loading the repository.

I will check by verifying the repository for errors.

Hi Pramod,

Have you tried doing the same thing with other GUI's - like Import Manager, Syndicator. If the same prob comes, then the problem is with the Rep. you can try checking the rep for errors

Otherwise, if the same is only with Data manager, then the problem is only with the Data Manager. You can unistall and install the Data Manager Again.

Hope it helps.

Hi Nitin,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried in Import & Syndication manager, same error occured.

I uninstalled the GUI's & installed it once again, same problem is getting repeated.

I verified the repository, no errors from the log report.

Please tell me any other thing to be checked.

Hi Pramod,

Since you have checked all the GUI's. Kindy check 2 more things:

1. Whether your MDM version and the build exactly matches with the version and the build of the Components ( GUI's). Ideally it should match exactly.

You will find it in Console- About Console

and for server - you will find it in the Console.( Server details)

2. And if the same problem persists when you are trying to connect to any other repository. If it behaves the same ( i.e giving problem for all the repository on the MDM server) then probably it is a MDM server problem as all the repository are giving a problem. Then you can try stopping the MDM Server and then re-starting it again.

  • But If it is happening for only 1 repository, then try archiving the repository and Unarchive it with a different repository name. Hopefully the problem will get solved then.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Nitin,

I tried archiving the repository & found some non fatal errors, repaired the same.

MDM server build version is same in GUI & server.

I am able to access the data manager in server remotely from my local machine.

I will try stopping the server & starting the server.

Hi Pramod,

since u have done most of the checks some clarifications:

how huge is the data in repository u want to connect?

Did u try to unload and update indices(not reload) the repository? This may work if any changes in data model has been done for the repo.

Also see the xml schemas defined in console. are the path correct?try deleting them and load the repository. It may work

Ravi

Pramod,

Basically the Data Manager is unable to connect to the server when you get this message.

Two things to try:

1) Verify that that repository that you are trying to connect to is indeed up and running.

2) Try to ping the server from your client machine. If the client is unable to see the server then it may be a network issue.

Have you tried installing any of the other GUI clients on the machine and tried to connect to the repository with them? Chances are you will get the same error. My guess is that either the repository is not loaded and running, or there is a network issue with the client machine trying to see the server machine.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I noticed one thing I am able to access data manager through GUI installed on server when I remotely log into the server(server name displayed as XYZ.abc.com) but when i try to connect data manager from GUI(local machine, server name displayed as only XYZ).

Does this cause any problem.
