Hi
For changing the Asset useful life , simply write an LSMW or a BDC of Transaction Code AS02 -->Change Asset Master Data and provide the details in Text file and upload.
This is only way to change useful life for your requirement.

Dear Asset Gurus
When simulating the t/code ABUMN transfer within company code, it was ok. However, when trying to post, below error is displayed.
Depreciation area 03 is not being processed
Message no. AA087
Diagnosis
The depreciation area 03 cannot be processed, because it was not transferred to the function module for breaking down the derived depreciation area.
Procedure
The user is not required to do anything.
Really appreciate help in this. Thanks in advance.

Dear Asset Gurus
I have quite the same problem too - extending useful life.
Company's financial year is Jan-Dec. Say an asset purchased on 1/1/2006 for 3,000 is depreciated over 3 years i.e. it will be fully depreciated by 31/12/2008. It was then decided to extend its useful life for another year until 31/12/2009 effective from 1/1/2008. Year-end closing for 2007 done. Thus, depreciation for 2008 is now spread until 2009. Furthermore, the exercise involve many assets which have different capitalisation dates.
Is there a way to cap certain assets to end depreciating on a particular date? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You can directly change the asset useful life by going to depreciation area of Assets, but be careful that the new useful life is not lower than the already expired life. Since the number of assets as you say is many this can be done by running a job.
Once you change the useful life the depreciation will be adjusted during the remaining life.

Hello
Revaluation of assets involves seperate configuration, sometimes also a new depreciation area.
So ideally, keep the useful and the current asset values and make settings in the new dep revaluation area.
This way new values can be updated without changing the useful life.
