Hi Gurus,

For what kind of requirements we prepare functional specs?

I want to know for what kind of GAPS we have to prepare Functional Specs?

if i need a custom BAPI do i have to prepare a functional spec for this?

for the ouput determination procedure configuration, do i have to prepare a functional spec?

If i am creating new sales document type, do i have to prepare a functional spec?

Thank you

Hi Rajesh,

I have been following your links for quite some time. Thanks for helping the community.

Ideally, Standard Invoice provided does not meets the requirement of the client, hence the same requires to be developed, for which Functional Specs are written.

Also, there are some report which may not be available in Standard SAP, but is requirement of Client, even they require development, for which Functional Specs are written.

Incase of automation required, the same has to be developed & require Functional Specs. For Eg: As soon as Sales Order is created, Delivery, PGI & Billing happens in background immediately.

Hi Vamsi,

what would be the main difference between spec and COE in a template?

Thank you

Functional specification document would define why you are doing the enhancement, What needs to be enhanced and what is that you are expecting after the enhancement is complete. Followed by scenarios in which this can be tested.

A COE document does not have to have all this. COE document would just define what is being done from a config stand point the path that would help others if they want to change the config again and what is the businss requirement leading you to this change.

Hi Gurus,

For what kind of requirements we prepare functional specs?

Any change that needs coding. Will require a Functional specification document.

I want to know for what kind of GAPS we have to prepare Functional Specs?

Any situtaion where the current programs will not fulfil your requirements.

if i need a custom BAPI do i have to prepare a functional spec for this?

Yes you will have to write a new Functional specification document for any thing that involves coding.

for the ouput determination procedure configuration, do i have to prepare a functional spec?

For configuration changes you will not write a Functional specification document but instead you will write a document which is called Configuration object element or COE. which means what are the configuration changes that you are making in the system.

If i am creating new sales document type, do i have to prepare a functional spec?

In this case you might already have a document that have captured all the Sales documents types that you already created. Just add this change to that existing document. So that it would simple be simple for users to look at once document instead of looking at multiple documents

Hi Vamsi,

Thanks for answering exactly what i need. One more question bfre we close this subject.

Availability check does not happen in Quotation in normal scenario. Suppose i made configuration changes by assigning new schedule line category as default item category.

for this do i have to prepare a functional spec?

What is configuration object element? Do u have any template for this?

Thank you

No in this case you will not create a FS. But instead you will create a COE document. because you are just changing the Item categories assigned to a document.

A COE document will look exactly like a FS document nothing different. I would like to share the document but I will not be able to do it in this forum. Please give me a alternate method so that I can send you a sample.

Hope that helps.

There may be certain Gaps, which cannot be met in Standard SAP & these may only be possible through Development. For such Development, we require tp provide logic to Abaper through functional specs & details of Tables & fields & table links.

For information on Tanles & it's links, following link is helpful as below:
